911 Memories

I have many vivid memories of what happened on this day 18 years ago as we all do. But one in particular stands out. The sense of unity we all had. Suddenly we were all Americans again. Not liberals and conservatives taking up space. We forget that at the end of the day we all want the same thing. A better life for our kids; to insure the safety and wellbeing of our close friends and neighbors. And to live our lives, as short and fragile as they are, as fully as possible. These wants are not unique to us or our “party” or our country. They reminded us how fragile life is. And how easily it can be taken away.
For a short time I remember looking in the eyes of strangers and realizing that we not only shared in a common grief for all of the brothers and sisters who were senselessly taken from us one Tuesday morning, on September 11th, 2001. We also shared a love of life and a bond with something bigger than ourselves.
It’s important to remember that without each other we’re nothing. You can take that idea and make it as small or as big as you like. You will always have a choice. That’s what this day means to me.
I’ll never forget.
